I have lived in many places. My first teaching job was on the Texas Gulf Coast. Some of my pupils' parents worked on shrimp boats and brought me shells. On weekends, I walked on the sand and swam in the salty water.
I spent many years in Wyoming, just east of the Rocky Mountains. I loved the mountains. I hiked and camped in wilderness areas. I saw elk, moose, and bears. One day, as I walked down a narrow trail, I saw a black bear coming toward me, heading for some berry bushes. I was between the bear and the berries. I wasn't afraid, but I knew exactly what to do. I turned around and found another trail to hike!
Today I live in the Ozark region of southwest Missouri. I spent 8 years living in the country. My husband and I had a big garden, blackberry vines, grape vines, and fruit trees. It was a lot of work, but we liked it. Now we live in the city of Springfield, MO. We like the city too. We hike in state parks and nature preserves. We still have a garden but it is quite small. We have lots of trees, shrubs, and flowers.
